Another Year
Another Year (2010)
Director: Mike Leigh
Starring: Jim Broadbent, Ruth Sheen, and Lesley Manville
SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!
(Gonna sidetrack now: so I think Netflix is so wrong to describe it as a "tumultuous year")
Mary is in denial about her unhappiness and the state of mess she's in, but nobody's fooled, not even herself. She's lonely, kind of a bitch, annoying, makes all kinds of social faux pas, way too clingy, and she's a joke to others. But that's what's so sad and upsetting about watching how pathetic she is and how desperate she's trying to escape her life and problems. Nothing significantly traumatic happened to her. Just life. Life happened to her, c'est la vie. She didn't aspire to end up that way--nobody does. That's why it's so painful to watch her make a fool of herself, get laughed at and mocked by others, providing comedic moments to the audience when they're actually moments of incredible pain and sadness for her. It's not her fault she's the way she is, using Tom and Gerri's family as a stand-in for her own. Life happened. It's easy for me to judge and sneer at how pathetic and tragic of a person she is, but really it could be any of us and it might already be one of us. That last shot of Mary was heartbreaking.
Anyway, the acting was stellar and believable, the movie was so organic and natural i almost felt like a fly on the wall getting a glimpse of a average family during an average year. You feel and understand every emotion the characters have. It's like one of those movies that try to give you a-day-in-the-life-of-blahblahblah, but succeeding at it. It's not trite or artificial. Because the acting was so good, their character interactions and feelings and emotions felt so true. The emotions they've felt are ones the audience have felt before, so you can understand where the characters are coming from emotionally and really connect. The characters remind me of events, people, and relationships in my life, but that's just it--it's just another year in an average person's life, it could've been mine.
The movie was so at peace with itself and content about what it is, it's not pretentious, or trying to make some social commentary or call to action, it's not neat and tidy. It's another year, period.

inspiration with a lower case "i"
inspiration: 靈感, 鼓舞, 啟發, arousal of the mind, (這是一個working definition)
為什麼是inspiration with a lower case "i"?
1. New York Times Magazine 的 Fourteen Actors Acting.
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/12/12/magazine/14actors.html#index
http://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/12/08/actors-create-14-decisive-moments/
2. New York Times Magazine 的 Great Performers by Paolo Pellegrin
http://www.nytimes.com/packages/html/magazine/20090205-great-performers/
3. OneClub 的 Best of the Digital Decade: Top 10
http://www.oneclub.org/digitaldecade
HBO Voyeur
4. Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives by David Eagleman, a "possibilian"
http://www.eagleman.com/sum
In the same vein...
5. The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky
Trailers really don't do movies justice.
7. Brand Bowl 2011
http://brandbowl2011.com/

A Martian Sends A Postcard Home
“A Martian Sends A Postcard Home” (1979)
Craig Raine
Caxtons are mechanical birds with many wings
and some are treasured for their markings --
they cause the eyes to melt
or the body to shriek without pain.
I have never seen one fly, but
sometimes they perch on the hand.
Mist is when the sky is tired of flight
and rests its soft machine on ground:
then the world is dim and bookish
like engravings under tissue paper.
Rain is when the earth is television.
It has the property of making colours darker.
Model T is a room with the lock inside --
a key is turned to free the world
for movement, so quick there is a film
to watch for anything missed.
But time is tied to the wrist
or kept in a box, ticking with impatience.
In homes, a haunted apparatus sleeps,
that snores when you pick it up.
If the ghost cries, they carry it
to their lips and soothe it to sleep
with sounds. And yet they wake it up
deliberately, by tickling with a finger.
Only the young are allowed to suffer
openly. Adults go to a punishment room
with water but nothing to eat.
They lock the door and suffer the noises
alone. No one is exempt
and everyone’s pain has a different smell.
At night when all the colours die,
they hide in pairs
and read about themselves —
in colour, with their eyelids shut.

Release date: 2008
Language: German
Alternative Name: Kirschblüten - Hanami (or Cherry Blossoms)
Do you ever truly know our loved ones?
What are their passions?
Who are they, as people, beyond perceptions of just mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, uncles, or aunts?
What they have sacrificed, to be parents, children, or relatives?
Which do you know, of their impermanent selves?
Did you know any?
What are you willing to do to find out?

ITASA
聽說超級棒的, 我在youtube上聽, 真的很好 很喜歡! hahaha and then I got lost on my way to the North End....apparently I don't live in Boston....hahah I feel so ashamed xD
David Liang (founder of the SRP) 的一些advice等.
She told us a ton of really funny stories that happened to her and it was so interesting! lol apparently a ton of Taiwanese celebs are in the US now...like Will Pan, Fan Fan, Hei Ren, etc. Also, ran into Michael Chang, who I hadn't seen in forever and it was interesting lol.
Then we went to the afterparty!! Michael was really nice and got me and Yuko drinks...hahahaha Will Tiao and Tzi Ma also went and 我們還跟他聊天, 哈哈他還問我們喝什麼, 然後我們很shaddy的說喝 "可樂" 哈哈哈 cannot believe I partied with a 47 year old actor.
Then took freaking forever getting cabs, but then got back!
Pictures will go up soon! Also will clean up this language when I'm...more functional and when I upload the photos! Nobody's reading this anyway haha

在家境不好的環境下, 還能make the best of it, 充滿了希望, 想像力, 動力.

Wallowing
總覺得自己最近一年來會因為一些小logistics而不去做一些比較spontaneous的事情, 所以缺少熱血的感覺is in part the result of my own doing (or lack thereof).
解決方案: put myself out there, be more on the edge, try new things, be spontaneous and follow through
What is?
How good are my intuitions about life, people, things, work, judgment, photography, writing? Advertising? Business Administration?
To be determined (with or without help, haha, do feel free to give suggestions)可能是因為現在季節的關係, 所以對自己很沒信心吧.
我就是這樣, 什麼難做就不做, 什麼路辛苦, 寧願繞路也不願意走 (so in this respect, Bob is actually a reflection of me, with his avoidance of troublesome trifles, self-handicapping, and 逃避ness). 但是沒辦法rewire我的brain, or my behavior, or my default setting, 所以只能說:

1. Craiglist Murderer
Power mishap forces 1,800 out of dorm
Approximately 1,800 people were evacuated from a Boston University dormitory last night after a large electrical cable blew out of the socket in the school's mechanical room, said Steve MacDonald of the Boston Fire Department. Firefighters freed about 20 people who were trapped in the nine elevators at the dormitory, Warren Towers, for almost two hours after the electrical malfunction, he said. The call for people trapped in an elevator was placed at 7:21 p.m. at 700 Commonwealth Ave. MacDonald said he did not know what caused the electrical malfunction, but it generated smoke and heat in the building. He said there was about $300,000 worth of damage and the school officials were working to try to get students back into the dorm last night. Colin Riley, a spokesperson for Boston University, said Otis Elevator Co. had been at the dorm last week for routine maintenance and was called to the school last night after the mechanical failure.

Public Service Announcement
Just send cash, it's a universal language"
http://www.psaid.org/public/VideoDetail.aspx?videoId=350
